Learn all about working with fiber reactive dyes to create beautiful colors on fabric. Students will learn about the Japanese art of shibori, a resist dye process, in addition to color theory and proper dye safety. Throughout the week, students will learn different kinds of shibori techniques, make their own vats of dye and use dyes to paint layers of color on silk and cotton. Students can expect to leave this camp with a dyed scarf and lots of samples.

This camp will be led by Patrick Carter, a textile artist and elementary art teacher with Chesterfield County Public Schools. Patrick also teaches courses for VCUarts in the Department of Craft and Material Studies.
