Did you know one of the fastest growing areas of youth competition in the world is robotics? Just like sports, there are robotics leagues for all grade levels and, just like sports, they revolve around playing games to score points, to learn about healthy competition, build skills and teamwork. An added bonus, is that competitive robotics is also about learning professional STEAM skills that are necessary for solving real problems in our world now and for the future. This week-long intensive is designed to both enhance the work our robotics teams do here at Collegiate and to use our experience to expose the wider community to the "whats and hows" of middle school robotics. To, also, give them the understanding of how to start your own teams either in or out of schools. We will explore both the FIRST LEGO League and the SeaPerch ROV competition tools and structures. Please see firstinspires.org/robotics/fll and seaperch.org for more information.
Dan Bell is the Middle School Technology and STEAM Teacher and Lead Robotics Coach.
