Part Time Transportation Drivers (CDL Licensed)

Collegiate School seeks experienced Transportation Drivers for part-time positions. The Driver is responsible for transporting Collegiate students, faculty and staff using school-owned vehicles, performing required vehicle pre/post trip inspections, vehicle cleaning, vehicle maintenance, and other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor. This is a part-time non-benefitted position.
General Responsibilities include:
  • Complete transportation vehicle pre/post trip inspections prior to/after each vehicle use, and work to ensure all fleet vehicles are in safe driving condition.
  • Reports any and all vehicle defects immediately to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Ensure all vehicles assigned for the trip are properly cleaned, maintained, and fueled before and after the assigned trip.
  • Perform driving and vehicle maintenance-related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Adhere to CDL related requirements and regulations, including required D.O.T. physicals.
  • Comply with OSHA, DOT, DMV, VCPE, and Collegiate safety rules and regulations.
  • Participate in training activities and remain up-to-date and informed as to current and best practices of job-related functions.
  • Be available to work on an as needed basis during the weekday shifts, and/or weekends as needed by the Department of Transportation.
  • Perform other necessary Facilities duties, as assigned.
  • Provides basic first aid as necessary to passengers.
  • Immediately reports any incidents or injuries that occur while transporting passengers to school official(s) and the Transportation Supervisor.
 
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
  • Must be 21 years of age and at least 3 years of passenger driving experience, preferably in a school, charter, or transit setting.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Virginia CDL Class A or B with a passenger (P) endorsement. 
  • Acceptable DMV restrictions are: E- Restricted to automatic transmission when operating a CMV; J- CDL privilege- school activity bus only; K- You may not operate a commercial motor vehicle outside of Virginia. All other restrictions will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Ability to check vehicles to ensure, among other items, that all lights are working, tires are properly inflated, and to suggest/take corrective actions.
  • Ability to do minor maintenance of vehicles including checking fluid levels, adding fluids levels, and making minor adjustments as required.
  • Excellent reading, writing and oral comprehension skills required (including proper English, punctuation, grammar rules, etc.)  Specifically, ability to read manuals and follow safety instructions.
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills, with attention to clarity and detail.
  • Ability to communicate via phone/text/email regarding job-related responsibilities during/outside of scheduled shifts.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and pneumatic tools, as required.
  • Ability to record trip and vehicle information, and maintain accurate records both written and electronically.
  • Maintain productive relationships with vendors and all School Faculty and Staff.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate any vehicle safely in all weather conditions using defensive and safe driving techniques.
  • Proven cross cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of others and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging in the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a physical exam as required by The Department of Transportation.
  • Be able to assist passengers in and out of vehicles, as needed.
  • Must be able to evacuate a fully loaded activity bus or mini bus in a safe and organized manner during an emergency situation.
