Printmaking

Students will experiment with a variety of printmaking techniques on paper and fabric. These techniques could include block printing, screen printing and cyanotype printing. We'll explore what to make from these prints, including notebooks, T-shirts and bags. We'll culminate the week's activities with a gallery show at Friday's dismissal.

A librarian by trade, Catherine Clements is a maker at heart. She especially enjoys bookbinding and knitting, but what she loves about being a maker is that there is always something new to learn – new techniques, new media, new tools. As a middle school librarian at Collegiate, Ms. Clements manages the Reed-Gumenick Library makerspace and enjoys helping students bring their ideas to life. Currently, she is fascinated by all things textiles and wants to learn more about quilting. Ms. Clements holds a B.A. in English and art history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a M.S. in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

When she is not making art, Teresa Coleman is daydreaming about it and wondering what she might create next. Most art media and techniques are fair game, but drawing, painting, sewing, printing and working with clay vie as favorites. As a Collegiate Middle School art teacher for the past 11 years, Mrs. Coleman has had the chance to dabble in these and other media with her students. She believes students are the artists and their art should be authentic and meaningful. Mrs. Coleman holds a B.A. in French from Oberlin College and a B.A. and M.A. in art education from Virginia Commonwealth University.
