Where can you experience an outdoor adventure full of bug hunts, worm-wrangling, farming and fresh air? In the Collegiate garden with Robyn Hartley — that’s where! Join Mrs. Hartley, Collegiate’s resident horticulturist, for a journey of fun-filled learning about food crops, pollinators, compost, flowers and wildlife. Campers will learn by doing, with hands-on training in planting, weeding, pruning, watering and harvesting. The fun doesn’t end there, as campers will combine arts and crafts, literature and a little taste-testing into each day’s adventure.
Mrs. Hartley spent most of her childhood and teen years searching her family’s garden for the biggest cucumbers and the neighborhood ditches for the friendliest frogs. She loved her hobby so much, she studied it in college, graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Horticulture. Her favorite part of gardening is sharing her love and interest with others. She’s looking forward to spending her summer with other fellow garden lovers.
