Jake McGee '10 Signs with Carolina Panthers

Jake McGee ’10 has signed a three-year free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers and will report Friday to the team’s two-day rookie minicamp in Charlotte.

A 6-5, 250-pound tight end, McGee will remain at the defending National Football Conference’s base of operations through May and June for both optional and mandatory team workouts. His goal, of course, is to make the Panthers’ 53-man roster.

“It’s an exciting time,” said McGee, who played three years at Virginia, earned his degree in psychology, then transferred to Florida where he started for the Gators and served as team captain this past fall.

“You clearly want to get drafted, but it’s a great opportunity, a great situation. It’s really in my control now to make the most of it and really succeed."
