An American Red Cross sponsored blood drive at Collegiate School last week resulted in the donation of 75 pints of blood, which can save as many as 225 lives.
“Blood donation is an amazing gift to those in our community,” said Mandy Salhab, an Upper/Middle School nurse at Collegiate who assisted in the coordination of the drive. I am very appreciative to those who were a part of our Collegiate donation day.”
The drive was scheduled for one day, May 24, but because of the strong response, the Red Cross returned May 27.
“Of the 75 units collected, Collegiate had the largest number of O blood (which can be transfused into patients with other blood types), and CMV negative blood, which goes to Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Virginia,” Salhab added. “We also collected the largest number of units for Team Callen to date.”
