Through Service, Collegiate Students Spread Holiday Cheer

During the month of December, Collegiate School students spread holiday cheer to others throughout the community, amid their own classroom celebrations. A few of those efforts included the following:

A group of 5th Grade girls visited Doorways, the VCU Medical Center’s hospitality house, to make lunches, cookies and brownies for families staying there while their loved ones receive treatment at the hospital.

Another class of 5th Grade girls donated books to the Children’s Museum of Richmond’s Book Bank. They teamed up with their Junior Kindergarten Bridge Buddies to craft colorful bookmarks to place in the books.

Lower School students helped share their love of reading by stocking the bookshelves of the Central Virginia Children's Book Bank and HomeAgain with a Holiday Book Drive from Dec. 5-13. Their efforts collected more than 500 books sure to brighten the holidays for children in the community.

“The spirit of community and giving to others that embodies this season — and is intrinsic to the mission of Collegiate School — leads so many of our students and families to engage with our community partners through service,” said Suzanne Fleming, Collegiate's Director of Service Learning and Civic Engagement.
