Learn to make baskets and sculptural forms from natural materials using the ancient techniques of twining, coiling and looping. In this camp, students will learn about basket weaving traditions from all over the world and contemporary artists using those techniques. After learning the basics and making samples, students will have time to experiment in the studio and come up with their own designs for baskets and sculptures. Students can expect to leave this camp with one or two baskets and the skills to make many more!
This camp will be led by Patrick Carter, a textile artist and elementary art teacher with Chesterfield County Public Schools. Patrick also teaches courses for VCUarts in the Department of Craft and Material Studies.
