USA Basketball Boys Regional Camp Coming to Collegiate
The first USA Basketball Boys Camp to be hosted in the mid-Atlantic region will take place at Collegiate School on Saturday and Sunday, with the School’s athletics staff leading the program.
Del Harris, Collegiate’s head boys’ varsity basketball coach and basketball program leader, is a longtime USA Basketball-licensed volunteer and will serve as head coach of the regional event taking place this weekend in Collegiate’s Seal Athletics Center and Jacobs Gym. Collegiate athletic trainer Shannon Winston will serve as the camp’s lead trainer.
Dozens of boys, ages 10 to 16, from across the East Coast have registered for the Aug. 4-5 camp, and will learn from Coach Harris and 12 other USA Basketball-licensed coaches from around the region.
The camp is open to players of all levels and abilities and will give them opportunities to learn basketball fundamentals through station work, group drills and games.
“To have USA Basketball come to Collegiate is an honor, and this is a great opportunity to invite the Richmond community to our campus,” Coach Harris said. “As a volunteer coach, it’s an honor to work for your country.
“The USA Basketball camp represents what we (at Collegiate) always stress in our boys’ and girls’ programs - team play, positive attitude, making others better,” he continued. “It will be so cool to see 100 kids with USA basketball jerseys on at Collegiate.”
