The junior class met with several young alumni today to hear about their college experiences thus far and ask questions about the college admission process and life beyond Collegiate.
Half of the juniors met in the Sharp Academic Commons Octagon and half met in Oates Theater with two groups of alumni forming panels of experts on college life, academic and social. The alumni offered great advice on filling out applications, meeting with college counseling advisors, focusing on one's own college search without being distracted by what friends are doing and making a final choice. They also discussed matters related to making new friends, managing time, getting enough sleep, checking in with parents, choosing a major (and changing your mind), living in dorms, relationships with roommates and joining in extracurriculars. They all expressed how fortunate they felt having had the assistance of our College Counseling Office.
On the panels today were Mason Brown '13 (Rhodes), Mackie Chase '15 (VMI), Isaiah Fleming-Klink '15 (Georgetown), Houlder Hudgins '14 (Kenyon), Mohamed Karabatek '15 (Yale), Sean O'Neil '15 (UC-Berkeley), Frankie O'Neill '13 (Texas Christian University), Austin Spivey '12 (William & Mary), Tori Spivey '14 (UVA), Reeves Surgner '14 (Washington & Lee), Anthony Vita '12 (High Point University), Julia Weinberg '13 (Kenyon), and Annika Wooton '12 (University of Kansas).
Thanks to all alumni who took time during their winter breaks to return to campus and share some wisdom with the junior class.
