Lower Schoolers Explore Traveling Map
This week a National Geographic map of the Pacific Ocean coasted into Collegiate’s Lower School.
The map is located in Burke Hall through Jan. 22, and is exposing students to the largest and deepest ocean in the world. JK-4th Graders are learning about the ocean and also about the climate, sea creatures, and continents and countries surrounding the body of water.
“The students don’t normally think of the ocean floor as having similar features and characteristics as dry land,” said Laura Fields, Assistant Head of the Lower School. “So the exposure of an ocean floor map has great potential to enlighten an appreciation and love of geography.”
The students who visited this morning were excited to roam around and explore the map on their own. This is the fifth year the Lower School has hosted a National Geographic map.
