Collegiate students, faculty, staff and friends have the opportunity to view art produced by local professionals and alums at two locations on campus, now through spring.
Since September, the works of various potters have been on exhibit each month in the Upper School’s Saunders Family Library, thanks to Collegiate Upper School art teacher Mary Arzt.
“I think these monthly exhibits help to inform and inspire our ceramics [and] art students while supporting Virginia potters,” said Mrs. Arzt who is facilitating the visits with the artisans.
Featured potters have included Aggie Zed, Carla Pillsbury and Steven Glass, who is potter in residence at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. This month’s exhibit features Marti Mocahbee, an award-winning potter whose work is featured in exhibits across the East Coast, and in various publications. She specializes in using Georgia clay with black against rich colors.
All work on display in the Library is available for sale, and the exhibit will last through May.
In addition to the pottery exhibit, there is an opportunity to view artwork created by alums. The annual Alumni Art Exhibit is on display in the South Science Building, showcasing art from 13 Collegiate graduates ranging from the classes of 1948 to 2013. The art will be on view through March 16.
