Ethics Bowl Features Well-Matched Teams

It was Collegiate's privilege to welcome students from Appomattox Regional Governor's School, Deep Run High School, Freeman High School, and James River High School to do high-level thinking in a collaborative yet critical way, while promoting the civility of responsible citizenship that is essential for a healthy society. We are proud to be a part of a community of educators - both university professors from VCU, University of Richmond, Virginia Union University, Longwood University and John Tyler Community College and teachers from public and independent schools - committed to promoting ethics as important to the education of our young people.

Yesterday proved to be an eventful day of competition, with close rounds and records. Collegiate and Freeman High School progressed to the final round, and the judges' votes ended in a tie! After consulting UNC for procedural guidance, we consulted total points instead of judges' votes, and Freeman topped Collegiate by 3 points. Congratulations to Freeman High School as they proceed to compete against the winner of the Maryland High School Ethics Bowl to determine which team competes at the National High School Ethics Bowl!

Also, Morgan Gutenberger '16 and Megan Phillips '16 are on Collegiate's team but were unable to attend on Saturday.
