Legendary Tennis Coach Guides Collegiate Players
Renowned tennis coach Nick Bollettieri visited Collegiate School’s Williams-Bollettieri Tennis Center on the Robins Campus today where he led a clinic with members of Collegiate’s Boys and Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity tennis teams.
Students received instruction and words of encouragement from the legendary coach, as many parents and friends served as spectators.
Colton Jones, a rising senior and captain of the Collegiate Boys Varsity team, expressed his excitement at meeting Bollettieri.
“He helped coach some of the best players in the world,” Jones said. “It’s an amazing opportunity to have him here.”
Sophie Mitchell, a rising sophomore on the Collegiate Girls Varsity team, agreed.
“It is so awesome to learn from him,” she said. “He’s teaching us mental strategies to do whatever it takes to win.”
The Williams-Bollettieri Tennis Center opened in 2010 and includes 13 hard courts, one of which is a center court with seating for 100. The Center received a 2013 United States Tennis Association Outstanding Facility Award.
Bollettieri, a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, is revered as a coach for his participation in the development of many tennis players, including the former No. 1-ranked Andre Agassi, Monica Seles, Jim Courier and Venus and Serena Williams.
“This facility is top notch,” Bollettieri said of the Tennis Center. “It is outstanding when you combine education and sports to teach the principles of life. And this school is doing that.”
After the clinic, Bollettieri signed copies of his book, Bollettieri: Changing the Game, for the crowd.
