Students in the Ideas Worth Spreading: TEDxYouth Senior Seminar learn about the greater Richmond community. They immerse themselves in RVA, discovering creative and passionate individuals and organizations who envision never-before-seen possibilities and bring them to life. Civic engagement is the cornerstone of the course.
You’ve probably heard of TED, a gathering for the world’s thinkers and doers to share ideas. TEDxYouth has the same spirit, but it’s planned entirely by students who believe in ideas worth spreading. To curate TEDxYouth@RVA, “Made in the Future,” students discover people who dream big or think about wild ideas; people who find small ways to make a difference in the lives of others; maybe even people who fail big and learn from that failure. With individual and collective action, students build skills in all aspects of the planning: curation, production, event management, fundraising, design and marketing.
The event will be held on November 14, 2015, and although it will have a local focus, there will be TEDxYouth events around the world on that same day. This seminar will also build a creative partnership with students at James River High School and Glen Allen High School as well as Andy Stefanovich and the planning team at TEDxRVA. This kind of collaboration is a rare opportunity to foster relationships, build community, and develop a dedicated team—one committed to making the views and talents of Richmond students defy boundaries.
