Stephen P. Adamson '92, Jr. High and Low Ropes Course
Stephen’s love and appreciation of outdoor adventure was born at his home in Goochland County, cultivated through Collegiate and mastered during his years living throughout the Rocky Mountain West. A devoted husband and father, the Class of 1992 graduate enjoyed challenging himself and others. To celebrate his memory and passion for outdoor activity, Stephen’s family, friends, and the Collegiate community dedicate this Ropes Course in his honor.List of 2 items.

Impact and Curricular Integration of the High and Low Ropes Course
Low Ropes Elements- Focus on team building, confidence and leadership development.
- Challenge the students to organize, lead, disseminate information, allocate resources, fail, communicate, follow, delegate, speak and listen.
High Ropes Elements- Focus on individual growth, overcoming boundaries and pushing limits.
- Incorporate static and dynamic elements high off the ground — students will move through problems and elements that will challenge them to focus, breathe, trust, set goals, fail, become self-aware, recognize resilience and celebrate success.
Middle School Curricular Impact- 8th Grade students will use the ropes course through the physical education curriculum with a unit of wilderness adventure and team building, utilizing the low ropes elements and culminating in the high ropes course.
- Expand to the 6th and 7th Grades in the coming years.
Upper School Curricular Impact- Utilize the ropes course through the advisory, clubs and athletic programs’ team-building activities with their athletic teams, student leadership teams and advisor groups.
- Train student facilitators to lead the courses, creating leadership opportunities similar to those of captains of varsity athletic teams.
Summer Programming- Summer Quest will design programming for students involved in camps at Collegiate.
- Upper School student facilitators will be trained as program leaders.

Outdoor Collegiate Overview
- Created in 2011 to expose students to non-traditional athletics, resources of the Richmond area and the James River, with a focus on best practices in outdoor skills.
- Two outdoor classroom spaces — one on the Mooreland Campus and one on the Robins Campus.
- Creating lifelong lovers of the outdoors though exposure to climbing, biking, hiking, paddling and advocating for the environment.
- Yearly trips skiing, canoeing, camping, surfing, all-girl backpacking and day hiking, climbing, biking and paddling.
- Planning summer trip to Iceland and trekking trip in the Indian Himalayas.
Oates Theater
Start Date: December 21, 2017
Completed: August 2018
After 25 years of countless performances, our Oates Theater underwent a beautiful renovation and expansion. Maintaining the footprint of the theater, the interior was dramatically redesigned to better accommodate our Middle and Upper School students and faculty who use this facility on a daily basis. A contemporary scalloped bowl design was incorporated to increase seating capacity from 565 seats to more than 700 seats and improve sight lines, and an impressive balcony was added. The space is updated with the latest technology in lighting and audio, including a new fly system to allow for safe, professional rigging of curtains, lights, and scenery.
To continue our ongoing support and commitment to the community, Oates Theater is available for select public events, making it the premier mid-size theater in Central Virginia. It is also one of the top five theater venues in Richmond, alongside the renowned Altria Theater and Carpenter Center.
Our performing arts programs show no signs of slowing down and new initiatives continue to benefit from a venue like Oates Theater. By improving on our existing facility, we show our dedication in providing the very best resources to our students, faculty and community. Oates Theater is a modern, technologically advanced performance space made for the spotlight.
McFall Hall
Originally named Memorial Hall upon completion in 1961, the school cafeteria was once the location for school plays, Brunch and other special events. In 15 months, it was expanded from 9,500 square feet to 15,500 square feet with expansions to the south (patio), west (Mooreland Rd.), and north (school service area). It now offers four serving areas plus an extensive salad and sandwich bar.
